Debt Consolidation via Debt Settlement is a process which involves a Debt Settlement Company who works for you. They lump all of your unsecured credit card debt into one account and then negotiate with the individual debtors.  Usually Credit Card Companies, these debtors aren't getting paid anything during debt negotiation , although they are aware you are paying monthly payments into an account specifically for paying off credit cards. Rather than loose all that money if you go bankrupt, or see a greater portion of it go to one of the other credit card companies you owe money to, they would rather settle for a partial payment of the debt and call it even.
